The most ideal location for mounting a gauge is not always the practical location but the closer the rain guage is to the controller the better.
It is recommended that the gauge be installed either on the roof, a light post, on or near a satellite dish, fence top or any open area. They should be mounted where normal rainfall occurs.
This means you do not want to mount the rain gauge where it is shielded from rainfall or where an abnormal amount of rainfall is re-directed into the sensor.
Properly installed, rain gauges can conserve water and protect your lawn and garden from over watering and potential fungal growths.
While standard rain gauges require wiring to the control box there are also wireless rain guages that are just as accurate. |

Placement of the rain gauge sensor is paramount. Select a location that gets as much sun and rain as your lawn, but not within the range of the watering system.
The placement of wired rain sensors is limited by the wire length and so you’ll be limited in locations to place the sensor.
Read the instructions carefully when adjusting the settings on the sensor as they can be very dependent on the type of climate you live in and also your soil type.
There are a variety of rain guage sensors on the market. The best way to work out which one is going to suit your needs and to determine whether or not you’re going to need help installing it, is to contact your nearest professional irrigation supplier.
Most of these companies have well trained staff. Just make sure that your write down the make and model of your water tap timer to take with you.
